Block Sanity

While working at Kiwi Fun, I was tasked to try and innovate upon the established sub-genre of block clearing games, where blocks placed in filled rows or columns will be cleared allow for more space to maneuver and granting score.

My idea was a system of specialty blocks and status effects that can effect existing blocks, along with shifting the goal of the game from survival to more target oriented missions. While similar ideas have existed in the genre with bomb blocks, I pushed it one step further with blocks that can spread themselves, freeze blocks that cause blocks around them to be harder to clear and more.

I programmed the core system and after passing the review of my boss, I worked with the art team and additional coders to eventually bring the game into a product for the company.
